“Kizuna” is the heartwarming tale of a young Chinese woman who travels to Japan to study and live.

２０××年、近未来の日本。一人の中国人少女・冬梅（ドンメイ）が日本へやって来た。滞在先は母方の祖母の家。冬梅の母は中国人で祖母は日本人。亡くなった母との約束～介護を必要とする祖母の力になろうとの思いで留学生としてやって来た。
Plot: It is the year 20XX in a Japan of the possible near future. A young Chinese woman, Dongmei comes to visit and stay with her maternal grandmother who is Japanese. She has come to Japan as the result of a promise she made to her deceased mother to take care of her grandmother. Upon arrival she has high hopes that she will be of the greatest assistance.
科学技術の発達した豊かな日本での生活に、最初は心躍らせる冬梅だったが、やがて介護に限界を感じ、祖母との距離が遠ざかっていく。心身ともに疲労困憊した冬梅を見かねて、ある日、ロボット研究者の友人が「介護ロボット」を連れて来る。冬梅との生活に寂しさを感じていた祖母は徐々にロボットに心を許し、愛娘（冬梅の母）の名「カリン」をロボットに贈るほどになる。
After arrival, Dongmei is swept away by her life in technologically and scientifically advanced Japan. However, soon enough she begins to feel the limitations of what can be done for others in terms of her ability to contribute to the care and upkeep of their welfare. Consequently, after recognizing the limits of her own abilities, Dongmei begins to feel estranged from her grandmother.
Then one day a robot scientist introduces the ‘caretaker robot’ to Dongmei and her Grandmother. Eventually Dongmei’s grandmother comes to accepts and later on eagerly embrace the ‘caretaker robot, naming it the ‘Karin,’ the same name she gave to Dongei’s mother.
一方、祖母との会話が益々少なくなった冬梅はひとり取り残されていく。そんな時、カリンが突然故障する。カリンの事を心配する祖母に冬梅の不満が爆発。口論の末、冬梅は家を飛び出してしまう。
No matter how much the robot contributes to Dongmei and her grandmother’s life, Dongmei herself begins to feel neglected. Due to the attention that her grandmother showers on the robot, Dongmei begins to feel that her presence has been overshadowed. Later on, the situation goes out of control when the robot has an unexpected breakdown. With this sudden turn of events Dongmei explosively vents her dissatisfaction at her grandmother. Following an argument between Dongmei and her grandmother, Donmei leaves their common residence in anger.
しかし騒ぎはそれだけでは収まらなかった。その直後、今度は祖母が居なくなったのだ。バラバラになった絆を取り戻すため、冬梅とクラスメート達、全員で大捜索が行われるが見つからない。徘徊？ 事故死？ 自殺？ 色々な憶測が流れ、万策尽きた時、意外な展開でこの物語は締めくくられる……
Chaos ensues. Soon after their argument Dongmei’s grandmother disappears. And with this event Dongmei is forced to consider and maintain the link that her grandmother represent. In response to this call to action Dongmei scrambles and gathers her classmates for an all out search for her grandmother to no avail. They are made to wonder, is Dongmei’s grandmother avoiding them all? Did she die from some kind of accident? Was it suicide? And after all resources and conjecture are exhausted when suddenly it all connects together…
